Jabari Parker Vertical: The Small Forward

Jabari Parker was born in raised in the Chicago area. Considering his father, Sonny Parker, was an NBA athlete as well Jabari had some advantages growing up near great players. Rather than playing basketball at the local playgrounds, he learned the game by playing in the leagues at his local church. He would play late into the night practicing with his brother Christian. He developed his basketball skills quickly and actually made the eighth grade basketball team when he was in fifth grade. Jabari Parker grew up fairly quickly reaching 6 feet 2 inches by the time he was in sixth grade.
Parker entered high school and played at Simeon Career Academy. He continued to grow, as a freshman he stood at 6'4 and was the first freshman in school history to play as a starter on the varsity team. Jabari's basketball career in high school made him a standout player for college. He helped lead Simeon Career Academy to 4 straight state championships. Obviously, that is really hard to achieve. His outstanding play earned him the National High School Player of The Year award assigned by Gatorade and McDonald's.
Jabari Parker's college career only lasted one year. For the 2013-2014 season he elected to play for the Duke Blue Devils. He started out strong, showing that he was going to be a leader for the team. In his first game for Duke he scored 22 points and gathered 6 rebounds. He continued to be consistent throughout the season averaging 19.1 points per game and became the first freshman in school history to lead the team in both scoring and rebounding. Jabari was awarded the National Freshman of the Year award and was elected to the All ACC Tournament team. After his freshman season he entered the NBA draft and was chosen as the second overall pick by the Milwaukee Bucks. As a bonus, Jabari Parker signed a shoe contract and endorsement deal with the Jordan Brand which is to the envy of many of his peers.
2014 looked to be a promising year for Jabari Parker and the Milwaukee Bucks. Jabari started out playing well and was slowing getting more comfortable in the professional league and improving his numbers. He had his best game in November of 2014 against the Brooklyn Nets by scoring 23 points and leading his team to victory. Unfortunately, the next month against the Phoenix Suns, he tore a ligament and that ended his season early. Jabari Parker's game is very similar to Derrick Rose he is quick, explosive and can jump out of the gym. It is still very early in his career but Jabari Parker is expected to be a force in the NBA for a long time to come.
